Expo: Stijn Demeulenaere

In his sound projects, Bruxellois sound artist Stijn Demeulenaere explores the social structures, personal histories and unconscious imaginings of people. Listen To Me is inspired by the ‘fly on the wall’ paintings of the 17th century master Nicolaes Maes. The spectator hears no sound, but receives only enriched visual clues, such as minimal and subtle facial expressions from the people listening. Listen To Me alludes thereby to the fact that we never listen only with our ears, but also with our personal histories, memories and other sensory organs.
